Dr. R. Blake Curd, Board of Directors Chairman
Dr. Curd completed his fellowship training at the Indiana Hand Center, the largest free standing center dedicated to hand/upper extremity care, research and education in the world. Dr. Curd completed his medical education at the University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Medicine and internship at David Grant United States Air Force Medical Center and a residency at Wilford Hall Medical Center. Dr. Curd is a frequent lecturer and guest speaker on topics covering hand and upper extremity surgery. He has given lectures and performed surgery on five continents. Dr. Curd is an active proponent of physician ownership in healthcare. He is frequently interviewed and asked for comments for various media at the local, regional and national level. Dr. Curd serves as the President-Elect for Physician Hospitals of America and is a Manager for Medical Facilities Corporation (MFC) USA, a publicly traded company that promotes physician ownership of healthcare and surgical facilities through partnering with physicians. He is politically active and makes 6 trips to Washington D.C. per year, advocating and lobbying for improving healthcare delivery.
Recently, Dr. Curd was accepted to the 2012-2013 Leadership Fellows Program (LFP) for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS).
Michael Lipomi, President and CEO
Mr. Lipomi has over 30 years of experience in hospital and ambulatory surgery facility management. He started his career with American Medical International at El Cajon Valley Hospital in San Diego, California. Over the past 30 years he has developed and run ambulatory surgery centers and acute care hospitals. Mr. Lipomi was CEO of Stanislaus Surgical Hospital in Modesto, California which he grew from a small surgery center into one of the Nations leading specialty hospitals. Mr. Lipomi was President of RMC MedStone where he owned and managed several surgery centers and a surgical hospital before joining Surgical Management Professionals, SMP. Mr. Lipomi is a frequent lecturer and guest speaker on topics covering owning and operating ambulatory surgery centers and physician owned hospitals for ASC Communications, Becker’s ASC Review and Becker’s Hospital Review, ASC Association, Physician Hospitals of America, Outpatient Surgery, SurgiStrategies, and many more.
Allison Bolger, Chief Financial Officer
Allison has over 25 years’ experience in healthcare financial management both in the for-profit and non-profit sectors. She currently serves as the Chief Financial Officer for Surgical Management Professionals. While with SMP, Allison has developed SMP’s equity investment fund, assists in identification of financing sources for SMP and its clients, and provides leadership and expertise in finance, accounting, and revenue cycle. She has been instrumental in helping with the financial development and turn-around of physician owned and joint-venture ambulatory surgical centers and surgical hospitals. Prior to joining SMP, Allison worked as the Division Controller for a large non-profit healthcare system for its owned, leased and managed hospitals. She began her career in accounting by working at a regional CPA firm in its healthcare division. Allison received her Bachelor of Science degree with an Accounting Major and her Master’s in Business Administration both from the University of South Dakota.
Reed Martin, MBA, Chief Operating Officer
Reed Martin has over 25 years of healthcare management experience with a focus for the past 10 years on the operational efficiency and clinical excellence of ambulatory surgery centers and surgical hospitals. Prior to joining SMP as the Chief Operating Officer, he held the positions of Group Vice President and Vice President of Operations for Nueterra Healthcare, a national ASC and hospital management and development company. As Vice President of Operations he had full operational and profitability responsibility for over 25 ASCs and surgical hospitals. He views healthcare opportunities with the financial perspective he developed in the MBA program at Dartmouth Business School and understands the importance of leadership, teamwork and employee development. He has been a speaker at national surgery center conferences and is a member of the Athletic Hall of Fame at the University of Rochester where he earned his bachelor’s degree.

Terri Neuhaus, VP of Managed Care Contracting
Terri has more than 20 years of experience in the health care industry. Before joining Surgical Management Professionals, she served as a Regional Director of Managed Care with Surgery Partners, Inc. In that capacity, she was responsible for the ongoing enhancement of Net Revenue through strategic contracting negotiations, data analysis, budgeting and business development and collaboration on behalf of ambulatory surgery centers and physician practices. Prior to Surgery Partners, Terri was with Cigna Healthcare as a Contract Manager facilitating the integration of Great West and Cigna for the Mid America market and Surgical Care Affiliates as a Regional Director of Managed Care working directly with operations and development for Joint Ventures and Acquisitions within her 7 state territory, analyzing and projecting trends, negotiating payor agreements, providing revenue and case projections annually to each ASC Board of Directors and their partners.
Terri received a degree in Business Administration from Mineral Area College in 1985. She has a proven record of leadership with the achievement of many prestigious awards. Terri received the Cigna Champion Award in 2012, the CorVel Circle of Excellence Award in 2002, the 2000 3D Ace Award in 2000 for outstanding achievement and commitment in the development of the WorksSTEP program, and the Ace Award in 1999.
Sayword Edwards, MPH, RHIT, CCS, CPC, CPMA, VP Revenue Cycle
Sayword Edwards has over 17 years of management experience within the revenue cycle for acute care hospitals, an integrated health network, and a multi-site clinic system. She has a successful record in Patient Financial Services, Patient Access, Coding, and Health Information Management. She was heavily involved in the implementation of a successful Coding University program that allowed for the company to develop their own coders. Sayword has been involved in the implementation of key initiatives that resulted in increased revenue, quality coding, and decreased error rates and accounts receivable. She has also served as an adjunct instructor educating students in the Medical Billing and Health Information programs of a community college. Sayword graduated with her Associates Degree in Health Information Management from John A. Logan Community College. Sayword also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare Management and a Master’s Degree in Public Health from Southern Illinois University.
Debra Yoder, MHA, BSN, CNOR RN, Director of Clinical Operations, Corporate Compliance Officer
Deb is responsible for operations activities associated with the development of SMP sites and providing operational and clinical guidance to SMP ASC/GI centers and specialty hospitals. Prior to joining SMP, Deb was the Director of Nursing and Clinical Operations at the Iowa City Ambulatory Surgery Center when it opened in 2008. While there she implemented many initiatives, including improved patient satisfaction scores for four straight years of national patient satisfaction recognition, a clinical ladder program for the RN staff, increased specialty membership for all staff in national organizations and a 90% rate of certification for OR staff and insuring positive fiscal performance on a consistent basis. Deb has twenty plus years in OR experience and is CNOR and RNFA trained/certified. She has over 30 years’ experience in the ASC and hospital arenas-including community and academic centers. Deb brings a vast array of experience to the SMP team with her clinical expertise and excellent leadership skills. Deb graduated with her diploma in nursing from St. Luke’s Hospital and a BSN from Allen College. Deb holds a Masters of Health Administration (magna cum laude) from Ohio University. She is a member of ASCA, IONE, AONE, AORN, APIC, and is obtaining her fellowship in ACHE.
Traci Albers, MBA, Director of Operations
Traci is responsible for the operational and financial success of several SMP sites. In her role, she provides the necessary support and leadership to the SMP facilities, as well as helping with new development projects for the company. Traci began her career over fifteen years ago as CEO at a critical access hospital and rural health clinic in South Dakota. After several years in this role, she joined Surgical Management Professionals in 2002. In her initial role with SMP, Traci served as the Executive Director of High Pointe Surgery, a multi-specialty ASC in Minnesota. In the late 2000’s, Traci assumed a new role working for one of the ASC’s partner hospital. During her tenure with the hospital, she was responsible for system marketing as well as hospital operations, which included laboratory, pharmacy, home care, hospice, assisted living, pulmonary rehabilitation, community relations, retail, and the chaplaincy program. In 2010, Traci made the move back to the ambulatory surgery center market with Surgical Management Professionals and served as the Executive Director for High Pointe Surgery Center and North Memorial Ambulatory Surgery Center’s Maple Grove. In 2016, Traci was promoted to Director of Operations with SMP.
Traci received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and her Masters in Business Administration Degree from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, South Dakota. Traci has been a speaker at national and state association meetings for both ASC’s and specialty hospitals. She served as the first President of the Minnesota Ambulatory Surgery Center Association and currently participates in the Government Affairs Committee and as a board member for the association. She is a results-driven leader and relishes the opportunity to partner with entrepreneurial physicians to provide high quality low cost care.
Todd Clark, Director of Information Technology
Todd brings two decades of experience in Information Technology to SMP’s management team. He joined the SMP management team in October 2007. Previously Todd served as a Senior Network Engineer with PrairieWave Communications where he designed and maintained the corporate network including multiple data centers and many remote offices. Prior to PrairieWave Communications, Todd spent 16 years at Gateway in various technical support and IT roles, most recently as a Network Engineer.
Amy Hanisch, Director of HR & Admin Services
Amy Hanisch has over 15 years of human resources and administrative services experience in the healthcare field. Previously, she spent nearly 15 years at Sioux Falls Specialty Hospital, where she has served as the Executive and HR Assistant. Amy is very knowledgeable in benefits administration, COBRA, FMLA, employee coaching, and performance management. Amy has a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management and Associates Degree of Applied Science in Office Systems & Medical Secretary from Southeast Technical Institute and is working to finish her Bachelor’s at University of Sioux Falls. Amy is a member of the Sioux Empire Society of Human Resource Management (SESHRM) and SHRM . She has been the recipient of the American Management Association Administrative Excellence Certificate and is studying to obtain her SHRM-SCP.
Pam Saboe, Contracting Manager
Pam has worked in the medical field for over 30 years. Previously, she spent 15 years at Avera were she held various positions with the most recent as a Managed Care Specialist where she analyzed and evaluated Managed care contracts and proposals. Pam has her Bachelors of Science in Business Administration from Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas.
Rose Reynolds, Business Office Manager
Rose is responsible for assisting the Vice President of Revenue Cycle with planning, organizing, presenting and monitoring all necessary areas, all audits and educational efforts for the Central Business Office. Rose has 14 years’ work experience in the healthcare field with roles such as Director of Business Office & Health Information Management with Avera Flandreau Hospital prior to joining SMP as an AR Specialist leading to her promotion to Business Office Manager. Rose holds an Associates degree of Applied Science in Health Information Technology from St. Cloud Technical College in Saint Cloud, MN.
Lauri Gates, Coding Manager
Lauri has 23 years of medical coding experience in acute care hospitals, critical access hospitals, large trauma centers and rural health facilities. She has four years of management experience within the coding and billing department overseeing the entire revenue cycle. Lauri has been involved in the creation and implementation of an internal auditing process for both the providers and the coders within the Rural Health Center. Lauri graduated with her Associates Degree in medical coding and billing and over the years has received her CPC and CPMA certifications. She is responsible for the supervision of the coding team consisting of 14 coders and the coordination of team objectives.
Vince Smith, CPA, Director of Accounting
Vince has 14 years of accounting experience; he has years of experience in financial reporting/accounting services, auditing services, tax preparation, and payroll services. Vince holds a B.S. in accounting and CPA, graduated from Plymouth State University, NH. His responsibilities include the management of a team of accountants that provide exceptional accounting services, in the area of payrolls, accounts payable and accounts receivable.
